Birthdays and a Half-Marathon

Posted on Updated on

It’s been a while! My absence in recent weeks can be explained by life happening. I was consumed with birthday party planning for my (now 4 year old) daughter…mentally preparing for my latest half-marathon (because, honestly, the physical training was lacking)…and getting ready for a family trip.

The party was a fall/autumn themed costume party. I wish I had some decent pics to share, but as most moms know, when you’re running around trying to keep a party on a timeline, picture-taking kind of gets neglected. My husband took a few (bless his heart for trying), but many of the shots were just not blog-worthy.

Here are some highlights:

-I filled vases I already had with Dollar Sore raffia and scarecrows. I added a few pumpkin/hay bale accents.

-We made s’mores with mini fires in terracotta pots lined with foil and filled with charcoal.

-We had a pumpkin-shaped pinata. The kids always love it! And having my daughter’s party after Halloween, I’m always able to score candy on sale!

-For the goody bag, I did something a bit different, I set a hay-filled bin on top of hay bales (I took leftover bales from a party we went to earlier in the week=free!) and hid the goodies in the hay to let the kids hunt for their prizes.

-I tried to keep the food in line with the autumn theme: hay bale snacks, mini caramel apples, peanuts in a bucket, doughnut holes decorated to look like acorns). That’s the gist of it.

Now…to MY birthday (3 days after my daughter’s).

Don’t ask me why I thought running a half-marathon was a good birthday present to myself. I ran my first half about a month after I turned 30. It was in Vegas and certainly cause for celebration. So, when my cousin asked if I wanted to do one in Savannah, I figured why not?  I’ve always wanted to go to Savannah so this was a great opportunity.

While I didn’t have a super fast time, I finished with a Personal Best! 2:21 and some odd seconds. And this was all without serious training. Not that I recommend that to anyone. I do run relatively regularly, just not long distances. I went into the race just hoping I would finish.

Here are a few pics from the race weekend!

And then the weekend after that, the husband, children and and I went on a trip to Pigeon Forge/Dollywood in Tennessee! So, needless to say, it’s been a busy month of preparing to go somewhere or do something and then decompressing. I do have some fashion-related posts I’m excited about publishing soon! So, stay tuned!!

thank you! and good luck! I have done three now: Las Vegas, New Orleans and Savannah. All were very good cities for me because the courses are all flat! haha Savannah was beautiful with a lot of big trees for shade!
