OTKs are a TKO

Posted on

For those of you not familiar with fashion AND boxing… My Over the Knee Boots are Technical Knockouts!! blogger confession: I’m not too familiar with boxing. I thought TKO meant “total knockout” until I googled it. But I liked the title so much, I just went with it.

Anyway, back to the nitty gritty. Over the knee boots!!! I blogged about my obsession for them briefly last season (in my holiday wish list post). Since then, I’ve purchased numerous pairs. Returned numerous pairs. Dreamed about them. Read reviews. Scoured the Internet.

Needless to say my quest for the perfect first pair of OTKs has been a lengthy one. I bought a couple of pairs from Forever 21 last year, but they didn’t work for various reasons: too cheap looking, too short, too “pretty woman,” etc. etc.

I thought I hit the jackpot with a pair from the Altuzarra for Target collection this year. But the wrap detailing on the back was too much of a hassle and I decided $80 for a pair of fake leather boots was more than I wanted to pay.

My goal was to fulfill a checklist: tall enough to actually cover my knee, perfect mid-range heel height, not too cheap looking, versatile enough for every day and work.

AND FINALLY… I found a pair that were keepers!! Enter the Myer from DV by Dolce Vita. Plus, these have a cute side weave detail which make them unique.

After continued Internet scouring, I found them on Piperlime. But they were $240! A couple of weeks later, I saw one of my blogger friends, Buffy from The Style Gathering, wearing them in a blog post. She let me try them on! They weren’t my size, but it sealed the deal. I needed to get those boots! Thanks, Buffy!

I still didn’t want to pay full price, though. So, I waited. and waited. and waited. Finally, a markdown to $191.99! Still not a good enough deal. So, now I waited for that special “additional % off sale.” The waiting game lasted a few more weeks, which included DAILY checks on Piperlime. If you love something enough, you will stalk it.

Finally! An additional 30% off! Plus, I had $80 in rewards to chip away at the cost!! But just my luck…my waiting cost me. They were now sold out in my size!! Talk about a materialistic heartbreak! I called Piperlime and asked if there was a chance a returned pair would once again become available in the future. They didn’t know.

So, my stalking continued. About a week later I finally tasted sweet victory!! My size was available and they happened to offer 30% off a $200 purchase. The stars aligned!! I threw in a clearance $9.99 necklace in my basket to get that extra discount (see, sometimes you do have to spend, in order to save!). When I added my $80 in rewards, the boots and necklace ended up being about $64!

As soon as I got them in the mail, I immediately put them on (even if it was just to make a movie rental return). I’ve worn them a few times already and don’t plan to stop anytime soon!

OTKs and dress–another inch to the boot height wouldn’t hurt, but my knee is covered when my leg is not bent

So, what’s next?! My quest for brown/tan OTKs!! I’m kind of obsessed with a pair I saw blogger Emily Gemma from The Sweetest Thing blog.

But at about $300 they’re still out of my price range. So, for now, I’m just going to kick up my heels and enjoy the pair I have!

If you’re on the hunt for some OTKs, here are a few that may work for you:

“$79.95 Anastasia” by Mia // $39.90 Faux Leather OTK from Forever 21 // $149.99 “Sleekkk” by Steve Madden (additional 40% right now) // $148.99 “Salley” by Steve Madden (additional 40% right now)

Those OTKs are amazing on you! I knew I should have snagged them back then. I will have to wait until next year as So Cal is a million degrees already! Our Winter is basically our Summer 🙂
