To Dye For + Giveaway!

Posted on Updated on

Here at buddingfashionista.com, we’re (ok, “I’m”) all about dabbling in this and that, expanding horizons and being open to new beauty and fashion experiences. I recently did just that with my hair! My blogger friend, Erica Bunker hosted a giveaway for a free color/cut/style on her Facebook page…and whatdyaknow?! I won! I figured it was the perfect opportunity to try hair color for the first time! Yes, at 35 years old, I still had virgin hair. Mostly because I don’t want to spend the money on the process and maintenance. I’d rather spend the money on clothes or shoes or something that will last longer than a 6 week dye job. Plus, my hair is one thing I’m actually happy with when it comes to my appearance. But for free, I’ll try just about anything. So, I visited Barbara at To Dye For Studio located in Salon Suites. I told her this was my first time and didn’t want anything that was too dramatic or required too much maintenance. Here’s a “before” picture:

Then Barbara got to work (there she is in the background)!

In the end, Barbara went with peek-a-boo style highlights to keep the shock factor down! You could hardly tell from the front with my hair down…

…and even from the back, it wasn’t the easiest to see …but you could really tell once there was some movement.

And a few days later, I curled my hair before an event and it really helped bring out the highlights!

I decided I could handle a little more color and took Barbara up on her offer to do any touch-ups after the initial visit! So, the highlights are now a little more visible and I love the effect I get when I curl it! What do you think?! If you live in the Birmingham area (or are willing to drive here), you have a chance to have a little fun with color! Contest ends  April 5th.

I love the peek-a-boo highlights on you! My hair has been all kinds of colors! I’m kinda addicted to dyeing it. Lately though I’ve gone for more natural, subtle blonde highlights. I like the variation, but it’s a little easier to maintain! Love your new ‘do!

Hi!! That’s so exciting! Thank you so much!! I would definitely like it. I am getting my hair done today, but I am looking for a gradual color change, so it’d be awesome to use this for the next step in the process. And I’ll blog about it for sure!!

Your Hair looks amazing! I have wanted to try a balayage technique on my hair but I just don’t know where to go in the area. After your post I know where to go! Thanks!

Love the hair! It looks great! I love the long bob (or lob) look that all the celebrities are sporting these days. Every time I try to curl my hair to get the “undone wavy” look, it just looks bad. But I am determined to master it!

It looks so good! I just recently got my hair dyed for the first time too. I got Balayage highlights, which are supposed to mimic what the sun does. I got a couple of blonde streaks and everyone tells me they look really nice and NATURAL, which is what I wanted. I want people to think I just have awesome hair, not that I have a good stylist, haha.

thanks for following, heather 😉 good luck! although aren’t you supposed to hold off on dying hair while preggers? Maybe she has a vegetable based dye that will be safe to use on an expectant mommy!

Looks great! I’d love to win this. I’ve just started getting bold with hair color choices too but I hear my hair will lighten more over the summer in the sun! I follow you on FB & Instagram too, duh. 😉

Currently, I feel the same way about getting my hair colored. I, too, have asian black hair. In my 20’s I colored my hair and would spend a fortune keeping it up. After seeing the end results of your hair I’m inspired to get peekaboo highlights. Thank you for the inspiration and shove to get back into th dye-game.

Aw! You’re welcome! Thanks so much for reading!! Now that I’ve dabbled, I think I may want to try a technique called balayage! It’s kind of gradual like ombré, but more subtle yet still visible on the outside. I’d love for you to send me a pic if you go through with dyeing again!
